Wailua
Kauai's only navigable river — kayak 2 miles upstream, hike 1.5 miles through dense jungle, arrive at a 120-foot waterfall with a pristine pool. The most accessible backcountry waterfall experience in Hawaii.
Book guided tour through Kayak Kauai or Wailua Kayak Adventures ($75–100/person). Self-guided permitted — rent kayaks at the river mouth. State permit required for guided tours; reputable operators have these.
More beautiful after light rain (waterfall flows fuller). Avoid during and immediately after heavy rain (current becomes dangerous).
