Hilo
An 24m waterfall on the Wailuku River, free and 5 minutes from Hilo — one of the easiest payoffs in Hawaii. Named for the rainbow that appears in the mist on sunny mornings. A second viewpoint through the forest above the falls reveals the lava tube the river flows through. Pair with Akaka Falls (30 min north) for a complete Hilo waterfall morning. Also pairs naturally with the Hilo Farmers Market on Tuesday or Saturday mornings.
Free, no reservation. Located at 300 Rainbow Dr, 7 min from downtown Hilo. Small free parking area. Paved walkway from parking to the falls overlook.
