Māʻalaea
Molokini is a partially submerged volcanic crater 2.5 miles offshore — one of the top snorkeling spots in the Pacific. Visibility often 100–150 feet. Over 250 fish species in the protected marine sanctuary. Book morning departures only — afternoon wind chop degrades visibility significantly and makes the crossing rough. For the best small-group experience, book with Redline Rafting: rigid inflatable boats with 8–12 passengers versus the 150-person catamaran crowd. If budget is not the constraint, the difference in experience is not subtle.
Book 2–4 weeks ahead with Four Winds II, Maui Magic, or Pride of Maui. Depart Ma'alaea at 7–8am for best visibility. Afternoon tours cheaper but wind chop reduces underwater visibility significantly.
