Kīlauea
The northernmost point of the main Hawaiian islands — lighthouse promontory above sea cliffs. Red-footed boobies, Laysan albatross, great frigatebirds, and spinner dolphins regularly visible. One of the best wildlife viewing spots in Hawaii, largely undiscovered by mass tourism.
Book at recreation.gov; $10/person. Open Wednesday–Saturday (check current schedule). Arrive before 2pm — afternoon winds pick up.
Best in morning for seabird activity. Wind can be strong — bring a jacket.
