Waikiki has the mildest, most forgiving surf conditions in Hawaii — the original home of surfing, where Duke Kahanamoku taught the world. Long, slow-rolling waves on a sandy bottom. The standing-up success rate for first-timers is extremely high. Even non-athletes will be standing by the end. The most quintessentially Hawaiian experience available in Waikiki.
Book through Surf Shop Moku Hawaii (2 blocks from beach, best pricing) or any of the beach-front vendors. $50–80/person for a group lesson. Walk-ins usually accepted in the morning. Moku Hawaii is at 2301 Kalakaua Ave.
Best conditions year-round. Mornings are calmer before afternoon trade winds. Not possible during storm swell.
