Hanapēpē
Kauai's most charming small town — a preserved old plantation-era main street with independent art galleries, local shops, and cafes, reportedly the inspiration for the setting of Disney's Lilo & Stitch. The Hanapepe Swinging Bridge (a pedestrian suspension bridge over the river) is a quick detour. Friday Art Night (every Friday 5–9pm) brings out 20+ gallery owners, live music, and food vendors in a genuinely local, uncommercialized atmosphere — one of the nicest free evenings on the island. Combine with a Waimea Canyon day on the drive back.
Free, no reservation. Located on Kaumualii Hwy (Hwy 50) in Hanapepe, ~15 min from Poipu or 10 min east of Waimea. Friday Art Night runs 5–9pm on the main street. The Hanapepe Swinging Bridge is a short walk from the main street.
Year-round. Friday evenings for Art Night are the highest-energy experience. Shops close early on other days.
