Nuʻuanu
The most dramatic viewpoint on Oahu — a notch in the Ko'olau pali at 1,200 feet, looking straight down a sheer cliff face onto the windward coast. Site of the 1795 Battle of Nu'uanu where King Kamehameha I unified Oahu. The trade winds through the notch are extraordinary — strong enough to lean into. A 30-minute stop that leaves a lasting impression. Easy to combine with a Kailua day on the windward side.
No booking required. Open 9am–4pm. $7 parking fee per vehicle. No pedestrian access — must drive. 20 minutes from Waikiki via the Pali Hwy (HI-61).
Often very windy — bring a windbreaker regardless of forecast. Can be misty. Views best in morning.
