Kalāheo
The largest coffee estate in the United States — 3,100 acres producing 50% of all coffee grown in Hawaii. The free self-guided walk winds through coffee trees at various stages with excellent interpretive signs, plus a small museum and multi-variety tasting bar. The Kauai coffee character (smooth, low-acid, tropical fruit notes) is quite different from Kona coffee; try both side-by-side at the tasting counter. A pleasant 45-minute stop that pairs naturally with a Poipu or Waimea Canyon day.
Free entry — self-guided walk through the plantation at no charge. Guided tour ($50/person, ~1 hour) available at 9:30am; reservation recommended. Tastings on-site. Closed Saturdays. Located at 870 Halewili Rd, Kalaheo — 15 min north of Poipu.
Open year-round. The plantation is most photogenic October through February when the coffee trees are in fruit (red cherries). Closed Saturdays.
